eMobility Charging System featured at the Hanover Fair

Chancellor Merkel visits the Lapp Group

This year’s Hanover Messe was a great success for the Stuttgart-based Lapp Group, whose many stand visitors included the German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel and the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, both of whom took an interest in the latest products from the Swabian family business. Chairman Andreas Lapp and his brother Siegbert (board member for Technology and Innovation) used the opportunity to show the German Chancellor the LAPP DOUBLE-HELIX, an e-mobility charging system like no other, developed and patented by the Lapp Group. What makes this charging system unique is the coiled design of the charging cable, which allows for a particularly compact overall system. The LAPP DOPPEL-HELIX weighs almost 50 per cent less than conventional charging systems with spiral cables and takes up half as much space. It is also 25 per cent cheaper.

“Space and more importantly weight are key considerations when it comes to designing electric cars,” explains Siegbert Lapp. “They still have a rather short range, but every kilogramme of weight saved means they can go that much further.” The Lapp Group fits the LAPP HELIX at company headquarters in Stuttgart with its own "Type 2" charging plug. The „Type 2“ design was recently designated as the default type by the EU.

The Chancellor’s response was thoroughly positive: “Great! The ingenuity shown by medium-sized German companies as they make their mark on the global market never fails to impress. It’s a rock-solid foundation that serves the German economy well.”
The Lapp family is passionately committed to e-mobility: Andreas Lapp’s company car is a Smart electric drive, and Siegbert Lapp is one of the first owners of the new BMW i3.
